Whare Tapere were pā based houses of story telling, music, dance and entertainment. Sometimes buildings were erected for this purpose, at other times locations, such as islands, were set aside for these activities. Pā villages dotted the New Zealand landscape and in most, if not all, whare tapere entertainments could be found.
