'Creativity is our tradition' is a presentation that was developed for the 2007 Māori Innovation Conference at Te Papa. The purpose of the presentation is to communicate a number of messages including:
-
examples of creativity and innovation can be found throughout Māori history, leading into our pre-Aotearoa history in Polynesia
-
At times, our ancestors exhbited great ingenuity, resourcefulness and courage when faced with challenges. They embraced risk enthusiastically
-
It is remarkable what our ancestors were able to achieve with very little. They were able to cross the Pacific Ocean with only what their smal craft could carry and with what their minds and hearts could remember.
-
When we consider their creativity, it is important to look at not only what was tangibly created (ocean going vessels, for example) but the 'cultural attitude', the attitude of mind they possessed when facing life's challenges and opportunities
The presentation utilises video, images and music composed by Charles Royal.
